Inishowen Development Partnership gives out nearly €10,000 to Community Groups
At Inishowen Development Partnership’s Board meeting on 18th June 2012, €9375 worth of community grants were approved to 33 Community Groups in Inishowen. These grants will be used by groups for a variety of projects which promote social inclusion in the Peninsula.
Without this essential funding some of the projects which groups offer would not be able to take place. “Unfortunately we were not in a position to fund all the applications” outlines John Jackson Community Development Officer. Joint Manager, Shauna McClenaghan acknowledged the high number of quality applications adding that the Local Community Development Programme funding assists in IDPs overall work “to achieve positive change in the lives of people and groups in Inishowen” This social inclusion work is done by working in partnership with a range of groups and agencies to bring about real change in the situation of those who are most excluded in our community. “We wish these groups well and hope that with this small amount of funding they can achieve the goals which they set out to accomplish. Never has there been more pressure on the community and voluntary sector to provide supports within the community in times of ever decreasing budgets”, she added.
