The Job Initiative is a programme providing full-time employment for people who are 35 years of age or over, unemployed for 5 years or more, and in receipt of social welfare payments over that period.
The programme is sponsored by groups wishing to benefit the local community, namely voluntary organisations, public bodies and those involved in not-for-profit activities benefiting both employee and community.
The main purpose of the programme is to assist long-term unemployed people to prepare for work opportunities. The programme achieves this by providing participants with work experience, training and development opportunities

Quotes from Sponsor Groups of the Job Initiative Programme
Clonmany Mental Health Ass
Clonmany Mental Health Association is a voluntary group of local people whose purpose is providing social care and support to older people within the St. Columbeille Village. The complex comprises a High Support Unit, 20 sheltered housing units and a daycentre. Through the Job Initiative programme the Association acquired an administrator who is invaluable to the efficient running of the centre. The Administrator’s role is varied and includes accounts and wages, telephone and reception duties, allocation of annual leave and much more. The Clonmany Mental Health Association cannot stress strongly enough the importance of retaining our Job Initiative Employee.
