THE
INISHOWEN ENERGY PROJECT
The COMPARES project
seeks mainly to address the information gap on energy efficiency and
renewable energy between existing Government policies and programmes
- such as grant schemes - and energy users on the ground.
It aims to feed out information on saving money through energy efficiency
and on using renewable energy sources. We also want to feed information
back to the Government on the real obstacles people face in making
the changes needed to reduce the amount of energy they use, or in
using renewable energy sources, like wind, solar and biomass: the
main sources available in Donegal at present.
The project is targeted at the tourism and leisure industry as part
of the development of Inishowen as a Green Tourism destination, and
liaises with the farming sector on e.g. the provision of renewable
energy sources such as wood chip, but it also aims to make information
more accessible to the wider public.
It’s a European “enercy’regio” energy project
led from Inishowen by IRDL
(Inishowen Rural Development Ltd), in partnership with Sweden, Germany
and Crete. The Inishowen project is being co-ordinated on behalf of
IRDL by Inis Communications.
