Drugs and Alcohol Awareness
During February 2010 and April 2011, 130 Young people from across Inishowen participated in the Drug & Alcohol Awareness Project.
During the five week programme, young people examined drugs and alcohol and its misuse. By using a range of youth work practices and methodologies, the programme examined, informed and educated young people of the dangers associated with various substances. The programme also examined youth sub culture, peer pressure, the law and misuse of drugs act, as well as themes like binge drinking and its impact on the individual, the family, communities and wider society.

The groups who participated from Moville College, Buncrana Youth Club, Cockhill Youth Club, Clonmany Youth Club, Moville Family Resource Centre, Muff Youth Club, Glengad Youth Club and Malin Youth Club are now in a more knowledgeable position and therefore more likely to make positive informed choices.
The programme was followed by a half day outdoor activity session which was held in the Inishowen area.
On completion of the programme a number of young people from Muff Youth Club worked with Sean McGrory, Youth Development Officer of the IDP to design and print a drug and alcohol information booklet which was distributed to the second level schools, Youthreach centres and Youth and community groups throughout Inishowen Free of charge.
This booklet will assist Youth workers and teachers to give current, relevant and factual information on the topic of drug and alcohol awareness.
